Let The Building Begin – Database Sites Pt 1

According to Eli’s blog on creating a SEO Empire we want to create a large number of pages from which we can link to our other sites (sites highly optimized to make money) later on to achieve a high position in the SERPS. And one of the best ways to do that is create a database site, which is a site that pulls it’s content from a database of 100’s-1000’s of records to create semi-unique and useful content. Eli also suggests that these sites be 100% whitehat sites and also be able to bring in some long-tailed search term traffic. I don’t want to rehash Eli’s entire post so here is a link to it… read it over.

So if database sites are what we want to create, then the first thing to do is find some databases to buy or create your own database by scraping content the web.

The first option is obviously faster and takes the least amount of work. Databases are available all across the web. Here is some good sources to start with:

• http://www.odditysoftware.com/
• http://www.fpsgame.com/

Take this database and create some unique content with it. For those of you who don’t know how to do that visit Eli’s Mad Libs post to see how you can spin any database into meaningful content. I will also be doing a post later on how use the SMARTY template system to do this.

The second option to get data is to scrape it off of current websites. I hear some moaning in the background, but hold onto your horses for just one minute. The newest thing on the web is to create these things called MASHUPS. A mashup is simply a collection of data from all across the web presented all on one page. There are rss feeds, YouTube videos, news, pictures, weather, ect ect. And everyone is doing including Google, Yahoo, PageFlakes, and NetVibe. So jump on board and scrape some data to create your own kick-ass website. If you want to be super lame you can post the information as is and you will be sure to hit google’s dup content filter, but if you use Eli’s Mad Lib techniques you can actually create some useful content. For those of you who want to scrape webpages, I will be doing a post on how to do that as well.

Anyway you want to do it, get your hands on some quality databases and start to think of what kind of sites you want to build. In the next post we will talk a bit about the structure of a database website.
